About Sandy

I began my career in the kitchen and bath industry in 2002, after studying art and interior design and working in the field of fashion illustrating interpreting designs for knitwear.  I quickly learned that principles of design apply to both industries, and felt the fit was perfect.

Design to me is very philosophical and personal.  I enjoy having conversations with clients about how they work in their kitchen or in the room that they have tasked me to design.  I try to concentrate on the ergonomics of working in the room, the organization of the everyday needs as well as the overall aesthetic while incorporating the client’s lists of must-haves.  My end goal is always to create a space that is beautiful, feels effortless to work in and makes you want to spend time there.  It is ultimately very gratifying to see the happiness that I help to create.

Much of my experience early on was with smaller turn-of-the-century custom homes where no two kitchens were alike.  This enhanced my technical skills and attention to detail.  I have also worked with larger homes throughout the metropolitan area, including many hundred year and older farmhouses in Bucks County and as well as open concept barns which have their own charm and surprises.

Aligning my technical experience and artistic background with my client’s visions and dreams is where my strengths lie, and I love to share this experience with them to create a unique space that they will love for years to come. I have also loved sharing in this latest venture that I’ve always wanted to do (open a business) with my fellow designer and friend Rachel Walsh!

About Rachel

My career began in 2002 with a regional home builder.  I was their in-house kitchen designer turning architectural concepts into dream kitchens for home buyers.  As the housing boom proceeded, I found myself working with the sales staff to create custom kitchen designs and specifying cabinetry options for other rooms as well.  This includes master bedroom suites, libraries, basement bars, and laundry rooms.

I was also the estimator and purchasing agent for countertops and appliances overseeing projects in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.  During my 7 years with this builder, I developed a passion for the kitchen and bath industry.  I loved my job but wanted to take on a more personal approach to design and work directly with the clients instead of behind the scenes in an office.

In 2010 I had an opportunity to move to the kitchen and bath sector of the industry.   I was able to experience first-hand the design process alongside the client.   I started my own company to focus on the cabinetry and design needs of contractors and their clients.  I love that this industry is both creative and technical, allowing me to use all of my skill sets.  No two days are ever the same and not a day goes by that I don’t learn something new in this ever-changing industry.

For the next 10 years, I gained experience adapting to the changing trends and the many challenges that impact the industry. I was able to not only design the cabinetry needs for the space but also provide finishing selections including paint, tile, plumbing, and light fixtures.

Finally in 2022, with my friend and colleague Sandy Walker, Design the Change was born.
